How do I install Mehr Nastaliq Web on my Windows Machine? 

Windows XP

Users of Windows XP need to follow three steps to install Mehr Nastaliq Web Font on their computer.

1. Install Urdu Font
2. Install Urdu Support
3. Install Urdu Keyboard

Windows7/Windows8/Windows10

Users of Windows7/Windows8/Windows10 need to follow only two steps to install Mehr Nastaliq Web Font on their computers.

• Install Urdu Font
• Install Urdu Keyboard

Install Urdu Font

There are two methods of installing a font:

METHOD 1

1. Go to start menu and click run
2. Type ‘fonts’ in the run dialog box and press ok
3. Copy the "Mehr Nastaliq Web version 2.0 beta" and place/paste it into the fonts folder

METHOD 2

Go to start menu and click Control Panel

1. Double click on the ‘Fonts’ folder. If ‘Fonts’ folder is NOT THERE, click on ‘Switch to Classic View’ on the top left side of the screen. Now double click on the ‘Fonts’ folder
2. Click on ‘File’ on top left of screen and select install new font option. Select path for font file through the add font dialog.

Install Urdu Support

This procedure applies only if you are running a non-Arabic version of Microsoft Windows XP.

• Open this link in your Web Browser
• Download Pak Urdu Installer and install it

Install Keyboard

Download Mehr Phonetic Keyboard from here

• After unzipping the downloaded file, run setup.exe

Switch keyboard layouts

Do one of the following:

• If the Language bar is visible (at the top right of the screen): On the Language bar, click the keyboard layout indicator, and then click the layout you want. The letters on the indicator change to reflect the language of the keyboard
• If the Language bar is not visible: On the Microsoft Windows taskbar, click the keyboard layout indicator, and then click the layout you want. The letters on the indicator change to reflect the language of the keyboard to Arabic
• To access the onscreen key board layout, go to: Windows start menu -> all programs -> accessories -> accessibility -> on-screen keyboard

Can I use Mehr Nastaliq Web on my android smart phone? 

Yes! Mehr Nastaliq Web is supported on Android 4.3 and above.

How do I install Mehr Nastaliq Web on Android? 

The zFont 3 apps can be used for changing fonts. It works almost in every mobile like Samsung devices, Xiaomi Meizu and Huawei. Infinix, Oppo It also supports HTC, Sony and Motorola rooted handsets.

On non-rooted devices:

• Enable installation of apps from “Unknown Sources” if necessary. This option can usually be found in Settings > Security.
• Download Mehr Nastaliq Web font from this link.
• Download zFont 3 app from this link
• Launch zFont 3. Go to the Local tab.
• Tap on Aa Green Button.
• Find Mehr Nastaliq Web Font from the download folder and select it.
• Tap the Ok button.
• Tap on APPLY button.
• Tap on CHANGE FONT.
• Tap on Apply button
• Tap the Ok button.
• Font is applied immediately. No reboot needed.

Note : zFont 3 app normally shows some adds, to skip these adds click on continue to app..

zFont 3 is free and shows  ads. However, CSaLT or Mehr Type would not be responsible for the behavior of and any harm done via any third party apps.

How do I use kasheeda (elongate)? 

The tatweel (elongation) key is used for creating kasheeda. Any charcter that needs to be elongated needs to be followed by kasheeda. The Unicode for kasheeda is U+0640. If this key is not supported on your keayboard then you may download and install Mehr Keyboard from here. The elongation key on Mehr Keyboard is Shift+".

Note: Mehr Nastaliq Web Beta only provides limited support for kasheeda. Kasheeda can only be used with the basic forms of the following characters:

ب پ ت ٹ ث س ش ف ک گ
:For example

بـ پـ تـ ٹـ ثـ سـ شـ فـ کـ گـ

And the word final forms of the following characters:

ب پ ت ٹ ث ف ک گ
 :For example

ببـ جپـ ستـ صٹـ طثـ عفـ فکـ لگـ

حبیبـ جیپـ سنتـ ٹکٹـ شیثـ حنیفـ نیکـ سینگـ

Can Mehr Nastaliq Web be used with desktop publishing softwares? 

Mehr Nastaliq web is designed for web publishing. It can be used with destop publishing softwares like Inpage 3, Ms. Word etc but is not the most appropriate soultion for it.

How to see Facebook and Twitter in Mehr Nastaliq Web Font?
